DBS General Manager visits Lincoln’s International Bomber Command Centre

imageJulie Priestley, General Manager at DBS, was delighted to pay a visit to the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln on Thursday 15th September as part of the Business Women’s Link group (BWL).

The site which sits on Canwick Hill aims to gather and conserve the history and heritage of the Bomber Command. It features the tallest memorial construction in the UK - a 31.09m spire which is the actual wingspan of a Lancaster Bomber. It also houses a commemorative Wall of Names which currently includes 27,296 names of servicemen with plans for further names from across the UK, Europe and the Far East to be added.

Once finished the centre will include a peace garden and the lottery funded ‘Chadwick Centre’, named after the designer of the Lancaster Bomber. This will house resources, artworks, exhibitions, shops, multimedia suites, corporate entertainment and a restaurant.

Commenting on her visit, Julie said: “The work and detail that is going into the centre is amazing. It is such a beautiful site for the memorial. What better way to commemorate all those young men who died serving to protect us. I can’t wait to visit again once it is completed”.

During the Second World War Lincolnshire was known as “Bomber County’ as it was the Headquarters of 1 and 5 Groups and was home to a third of all the UK’s stations, with many well known-operations beginning here. Over 125,000 men served in the aircrew of the Bomber Command during the Second World War and sadly less than 70,000 of them returned.

Julie getting “Pretty Muddy” to raise money for charity

Julie DBS new squareEarly next month DBS General Manager Julie Priestley will be taking part in Pretty Muddy, a 5K obstacle course run.

The event will take place on Saturday 1st October at the Lincolnshire Showground.

Julie is taking part to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Entirely funded by the public, they are fighting cancer on all fronts, finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it to save more lives. It is currently estimated that 1 in 3 people in the UK will be develop cancer at some point in their lifetime.

Commenting on the run Julie said: “I decided to take part in this event just after my uncle was diagnosed with cancer at Christmas. He is now in the latter stages of cancer and we don't expect him to be with us much longer. Please help me raise money to put an end to cancer, any donation is much appreciated.”

DBS's Amy Scoops International Business School Award

P1000024It was a big day in September for Amy Wallis who joined DBS Internet Marketing on a 3 month graduate internship scheme.

Not only did Amy graduate with a first class degree in Advertising & Marketing but she also received a prestigious award.

The Lincoln International Business School Award for "Best Student in Advertising" was presented to Amy prior to her graduation by Dr. Craig Marsh, Pro- Vice- Chancellor and Director of the Business School.

Nottingham Company Revamps Website

DBS has re-launched an image rich website for long standing client Blindfolded.


The revamped site is a full width design that automatically resizes itself to fit any device it's viewed on such as a smart phone, tablet or PC.

Nottingham based Blindfolded are the area's premier blind/awnings manufacturer and installation specialists.

"Blindfolded has been with DBS Internet Marketing since 2004. We're really happy with the new website which lets us edit our pages and upload images to our gallery whenever we want to," said Peter Feghali, Managing Director.

SMEs can win business from local search right now!

Most people are familiar with the page layout when they make a search on Google.

There are 3 types of listing which are also shown on the graphic:

1. pay per click

2. mapped

3. organic




Pay Per Click and mapped listings dominate the page.

If you manage to nab the #1 organic spot on Google your prospects have to scroll all the way down the page to get to you.

There's no doubt that Pay Per Click advertising is effective but it comes at a cost whereas mapped listings are free.


How do I get a mapped listing?

Google compiles mapped listings from data it holds.

Google scrapes its mapped listing data from several places.

One key place is your "Google My Business" page.

The best way to give Google accurate information is for your business to claim your Google My Business page and make sure all your details are correct.


What are the common mistakes businesses make with their Google My Business pages?

Your mapped listing will have a red "blob" which appears on Google maps:




Make sure it's in the right place. It's not uncommon for business to be shown in the wrong place.

Many businesses claim their Google My Business page successfully but then fail to edit it fully. You can easily add your address, phone number, opening hours and images.




How can I get my business to rank highly in the mapped listings?

We've seen improvements in ranking for clients who:

· have a fully completed Google My Business page

· post on their Google My Business page regularly

· ensure that reputable directories have the exact same information as on the Google My Business page
