DBS founder celebrates 23 years at the helm

David Clarke, the Director and founder of DBS Internet Marketing, has been celebrating his 23rd work anniversary at the company, and marked the occasion in style by winning the East Midlands “Employer of the Year” award at the FSB Celebrating Business Awards 2019.

David was born in Nottingham and originally founded DBS in California in 1986 as a print advertising company (DBS actually stands for Directory Business Services). He returned to the UK with his family in 1994, founded DBS in the UK two years later, and has been a director of the company ever since.

Over the last 23 years, David has transitioned DBS from its original focus of print advertising to being in a position where it specialises almost solely in web design and internet marketing. During that time David has also built the business to the point where it became employee owned two years ago, making DBS Lincolnshire’s first 100% employee owned company.

Congratulations David!

Have you heard the latest about .UK Domain Names?

You may have seen domain names ending in just .uk rather than .co.uk like our domain name www.dbsinternetmarketing.uk which redirects traffic to our website www.dbsinternetmarketing.co.uk

If your .co.uk, .org.uk, me.uk, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk or .net.uk domain was registered before 28th October 2013 you have the rights to the equivalent .uk domain providing there was no other corresponding .co.uk, .org.uk, me.uk, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk or .net.uk registered before the registration date of your domain.

From June 2019 this is all set to change. Domain names ending .uk will become available for anyone to purchase.

4 reasons why you should register your .uk domain name(s)

  1. Protect your brand – after 25th June 2019 the domain will be in the public market and anybody could register the domain.
  2. It’s more memorable – having the .uk domain will be shorter and easier to remember than your current domain.
  3. Don’t leave it too late – if your domain is registered by someone else you may not be able to get it back.
  4. Cost – someone else may register your .uk domain name and then try to sell it back to you for a far higher rate than you would pay for it now.
We advise you to speak directly to the registrar of your existing domain name who should be able to arrange for your .uk domain name to be registered. In some cases you may be able to get the domain registered free for the first year.

Once you have the .uk domain name registered all you need to do is speak to your website hosting company where you can either move your website onto the new domain name or re-direct the .uk domain name to your current website.

DBS Internet Marketing are Nominet Members and Registrars. Please call us on 01522 811688 for more information about domains.

DBS named East Midlands Employer of the Year

2
Everyone at DBS Internet Marketing is absolutely thrilled to have won the Employer of the Year Award at the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) Celebrating Business Awards 2019.

7DBS Directors Julie Priestley and David Clarke have been at the awards ceremony today (Thursday 14th March) at the Double Tree by Hilton Gateway Hotel in Nottingham, where they were very proud to collect the trophy and be named as Employer of the Year for the whole East Midlands Area.

Having won the area award, DBS will now go forward to the UK national final, which will take place on 23rd May at Evolution Battersea, and is considered to be one of the highlights of the small business calendar.

DBS became an Employee Owned Business in June 2017 when Director David Clarke announced that members of the DBS team would now own a part of the long established internet marketing and web design company. David’s decision made DBS Lincolnshire’s first 100% employee owned company.

8David said at the time: “For me, it makes great business sense to reward the very people that have helped to build DBS. Now that the whole team has equity, we have a vested interest to grow the company even more.”

According to the FSB website, “the FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards recognise the best small businesses and the self-employed from right across the UK, from every sector and industry and from businesses of all ages and all sizes.
The awards are the leading celebration of small businesses, shining a light on some of the best, most innovative and most determined smaller businesses.”

DBS has been an Investors in People company since 2004, and has recently won a number of other awards, including the North Kesteven Community Business Award 2017, the FSB Entrepreneur Award for Innovation 2017, and the FSB East Midlands Community Business Award 2018. We are chuffed to add this accolade to these today.
